Education of the Whole Child

The Child’s Primary School (TCPS) is a top-ranked private school in San Diego with Kindergarten, Elementary School and Middle School through 8th grade. We strive to educate the whole child by providing a balanced education which includes academic excellence, social-emotional growth, and happiness in school, all focused on a curious child who is engaged in the educational process and respected as an individual by teachers.

Our goal is to inspire life-long learning through an inclusive and interactive teaching model, in an innovative environment, building independence and leadership in every student.

Our Philosophy

Founded on the belief that The Child Is Primary, we are committed to preparing students for the future so that they may be successful in high school, college, and in life. The “future” that our students face will require them to do more than just prepare for the next test. They will be called on to address challenging and complex issues.

For over 40 years TCPS has been committed to an education that emphasizes teaching the process of learning, of problem solving, and of critical thinking. Along with a challenging academic program, TCPS mindfully demonstrates to students how to develop the individual and interpersonal skills that will allow them to become leaders in the emerging global community.

At TCPS, your child will experience:

Academic &
Social Foundation

An academic and social foundation needed for each to graduate as thoughtful, engaged students who attend academically challenging high schools and colleges.

Strong Personal
Growth

Strong personal growth and life skills such as interpersonal communication, problem solving, time management, critical thinking and advanced research.

Small Class
Sizes

Classes with no more than 12 students in grades K-2 and 16 in grades 3-8 allow our teachers to get to know each child and how to best nurture their academic and personal growth. We meet children where they are.

A Spirit of
Philanthropy

TCPS students learn the meaning of community and the responsibilities involved with helping to improve our greater community through school-wide service projects.

Teaching the Process of How to Learn

Our curriculum aims to teach students how to learn by first discovering how each student learns best, so they will develop a passion for lifelong learning that will continue throughout their years of formal schooling and beyond.
